Health Cluster & Health Educaton Sector
The objective of WROC’s health and wellness programme are as follows:
1.To enhance women’s reproductive health .
2.To enhance men’s wellness.
3.To establish and maintain community outreach around men (focusing on HIV/AIDS, STDs, STIs and cancer screening)
4.To keep the community informed on health and safety issues.
5.To train community members to conduct community outreach and education activities around HIV/AIDS issues (through the use of popular theatre and other peer education techniques.
Conditions treated among patients seen conditions treated included Sexual and Reproductive Health issues, respiratory conditions, and hypertension and skin disorders. Of interest to us is the high incidence of skin and parasitic infections.
A pap smear clinic is offered the first Thursday of every month in which an annual total of 43 clents were seen. Family planning services are offered once per month. A family planning nurse from the National Family Planning Board visits our clinic the fourth Wednesday in every month. The following methods are offered: Contraceptive pills, injections, inter-uterine device and male and female condoms.
HEALTH EDUCATION SESSIONS
Presenters from various institutions including Jamaica Aids Support for Life, Department of Community Health and Psychiatry of the University of the West Indies, and Mead Johnson came in to give live talks to clients. Patients are shown video presentations on HIV/AIDS, Diabetes, Cancer, and child abuse.
Evaluation of services show that clinic users believe;

The clinic staff are very good especially the doctor ‘who spends time to talk to the patients’.
Sixty percent of the respondents said they utilize these services provided at WROC because it is more convenient, 25% said they utilize the service because it cost less as they do not have to pay transportation.
